Wilderness First Responder Course - $750.00

SOLO Wilderness First Responder (WFR) courses are the recognized industry standard for backcountry trip leaders, camp counselors, river guides, ski patrollers, and students in outdoor recreation programs. The WFR is an eight day, comprehensive course that covers the standards of backcountry medicine. Students will gain knowledge, skills, and confidence in areas including musculoskeletal injuries, soft tissue injuries, environmental emergencies, survival skills, and other medical emergencies. SOLO Southeast’s WFR courses place an emphasis on leadership, prevention, and decision-making, giving you the tools to make critical decisions in remote wilderness locations. Skills are gained in traditional classroom sessions as well as through participation in practical skills scenarios. This WFR will be hosted at UNC Chapel Hill's Outdoor Education Center. Course fee includes the ability to camp at the facility with 24-hour access to bathrooms, on-site parking, and picnic tables. Camp hosts can make showers available throughout the week as well. Wilderness First Responder is a three-year certification. This course includes CPR. Upon receiving a WFR certification, you can maintain it through taking a re-certification course, which is typically a 2-3 day course. Dates: May 13-19th, 2019. Members of the general public are welcome for this course. To register, you must create a log-in and password. Contact Shanea@email.unc.edu for any questions or help with registration. We are not able to give refunds for this course once you have registered. UNC students will see a discounted price in their shopping cart. Affiliates, staff, and faculty should contact shane for access to the discounted rate for this program. May 4th is the last day to register.
