The ACE Group Fitness Instructor Training Program follows the guidelines in the ACE (American Council on Exercise) Group Fitness Instructor Manual to prepare participants to take the test and become a certified instructor. This program is a 10 week committment that includes both lecture and practical training components. Participants will receive training on exercise instruction fundamentals including physiology, biomechanics, class format and design, and the skill of teaching. Specific Group Fitness formats that will be taught in this course include: Indoor Cycling, Strength, H.I.I.T., Pilates/Barre, and Kickboxing. All participants will be paired with a current instructor and team teach at least once a week for the majority of the semester. Important Details:
- This course will require an average committment of 4 hours per week
- Certification cost and ACE textbook are NOT included in this course
- Successful completion of the course will provide participants a 20% discount off the cost of the ACE Group Fitness Instructor Certification Exam
- Participants who successfully complete the course will be eligible to interview & audition to become a Group Fitness Instructor at UNC Campus Recreation
