Carolina Adventures’ Outdoor Leadership Series (OLS) Basecamp will give you a glimpse of what it is like to work for our programs. This weekend will give you a working knowledge of the practical and conceptual components of Experiential Education. OLS is also the main way in which we recruit new staff for our Challenge Course and Expedition programs. We will have an optional belay class and mingle with existing Carolina Adventures staff on Thursday 1/10 from 7-10pm + pizza. This will be provided at no additional cost but is a way for you to get to know more about Carolina Adventures what it's like to work for us from the perspective of our current staff.
The program will run from 1/18 after classes on Friday evening through 1/21. The weekend will be packed with experiential seminars, leadership discovery opportunities, an overnight campout with outdoor living skills sessions, challenge course participant day and more!
Upon completing OLS, you will have an opportunity to submit a letter of interest to the Challenge Course and/or the Expedition program to become staff. For both programs, there are on-going trainings to teach the skills necessary to facilitate and manage risks for everything that we do. As a new hire, you will also go through "on the job training" as an apprentice while learning more about facilitation and risk management for our programs. Once Apprentices are comfortable and have demonstrated a minimum level of competency, they become paid Assistant Facilitators.
We look for a mixture of experience, passion, teach-ability, leadership, team spirit, and grit for our new hires and are glad that you are considering joining us for OLS! Registration will close on 12/31. If there are spots left, we will re-open registration starting on January 2nd. Email firstname.lastname@example.org or email@example.com if you have any questions.
